A GENERAL IMPRESSION OF THE STORY
How far would you go to keep a dark secret?
On the small and peaceful island of Texel, a woman ends up in a coma after a horrible crime. Her children, Moby and Dolores, seem to be faced with a mystery, just like the local authorities; there is no motive and there are no witnesses. The attacker is undetected but is still on the island, which has been completely closed off by the police. A hunt for the culprit, however, does not yield anything and without further clues the investigation seems to stop, until it becomes clear that brother and sister know more about the shocking crime. What keeps them from speaking the truth? Why are they lying to each other, the authorities and the proud people of Texel?
On the Outskirts of My Island is a philisophical crime drama that explores the meaning of truth and untruth.
A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM FILMMAKER ASWIN BAAIJENS: 'THE PROLOGUE LIES TO YOU...'
With the prologue of On the Outskirts of My Island I want to introduce a mystery, which is then solved in the feature film. I challenge you emotionally as an audience and encourage you to discover a lie hidden in the prologue. Indeed, the prologue lies to you. The purpose of this is to arouse curiosity about what really happened on Texel. Of course I will reveal that truth in the final feature film. On the Outskirts of My Island brings a story about the consequences of lies, but it also offers the viewer an emotional exploration of the meaning of lies and truth.
ABOUT THE project
Making movies for a better world
On the Outskirts of My Island is an ambitious film journey that begins with a prologue, for which your contribution is essential. The final destination of this creative journey, initiated by Eindhoven-based video production company Second Sun, is the shooting on the island of Texel. In cooperation with leading parties in the North Brabant film and culture sector, they will produce a high-quality feature film with relatively low production costs.
This prologue also serves as a pilot for the final feature film. This pilot will be used to convince various subsidy providers and financiers to financially support our final feature film. With your contribution, the makers can realize the prologue for On the Border of My Island. Contributions will be allocated to casting, crew, equipment, locations, permits, audio, animations and the composition of a suitable, original soundtrack for the project. The makers plan to have the most important recordings made on the island of Texel, with extra days of shooting on the Dutch mainland (Tilburg, Eindhoven and Den Helder).
MAKING SUSTAINABLE FILMS
On the Border of my Island strives to be a sustainable production. This means that all possible measures will be taken to minimize the impact of the project on nature. The measures we take:
- Minimizing the amount of plastic used
- Separation of waste and use of energy-efficient and reconditioned equipment
- Catching local and vegan dishes on set
- Appointing an Eco Manager on the set to keep a close eye on the green goals of our production.
- Using sustainable means of transport to and from the film set
- Minimize the amount of paper used during (pre)production
If you are a film lover or if you are simply interested in the cinematic art form, we advise you to take a look at our campaign and to consider taking part. This way you support a project that brings an emotionally challenging story with a meaningful and visual addition.
This project is supported by Kunstloc Brabant.
