***STRETCH GOAL*** WILL YOU HELP US GET AS CLOSE TO €10.000 AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN COVER POST-PRODUCTION? THE VSB FUND WILL DOUBLE YOUR DONATION!
WOW! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT! WITH TEN DAYS TO GO, WE REACHED 100% OF OUR GOAL AND WE COULDN'T BE MORE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS.
The €7000 that was so graciously donated by over 90 people will go towards the production of Thin Ice, which is why we set up a stretch goal that will help us fund the post-production phase of the film. This includes editing, color correction, sound design, music and publicity. And the good news is: whatever you donate, the VSB fund will double it!!!
WHY THIN ICE?
In this day and age, whenever we see someone with a backpack behaving ‘suspiciously’ in a public space, we immediately freak out. We think we see the worst case scenario unfolding right before our eyes: someone is most likely planning a terrorist attack. Our thoughts go crazy and we won’t calm down until we’re 100% sure that we aren’t in a life-threatening position. And in the end, there’s almost always nothing to worry about.
As a society, we’re increasingly fearful, and we’re constantly creating doom scenarios in our heads. We do this collectively, even though the chances of actually becoming a victim of an attack are incredibly slim. Then why are we all still so afraid? And what happens if we let our feelings of fear and distrust take over? Those are questions we’re asking in our short film Thin Ice.
Thin Ice takes place in and around the lost-and-found office of a local ice skating rink ($), where an employee ($) who takes his work very seriously watches how ice skaters leave their belongings ($) hanging around the rink. All of a sudden, he sees two young men on a bench near the rink, sitting in silence with backpacks in front of them. They hardly move, don’t talk at all and look around them restlessly. Initially, the employee tries ignoring the men, but more and more clues indicate that the situation unfolding in front of him could truly end badly. In his mind he tries making sense of what’s going on, but after analyzing what’s happening right before his eyes, it looks like there is only one solution to this problem. He needs to undertake action ($). Will he become the ice skating rink’s hero ($) and save the day?
“Alright…” I see you thinking. “But why should I donate, then?” From this short synopsis, you’ll see we’re in need of quite a few things:
Ice skating rink — In order to start filming, we’ll need a location to shoot at. The script takes place in only one spot: an ice skating rink. Without the ice skating rink, there is no Thin Ice, but merely a melted ice dream, which would be a shame.
Employee — Once we arrive at the lost-and-found office of the ice skating rink, we would love to see a wildly driven, ambitious, unique employee behind the counter. In other words: a talented actor. Besides the employee, there are many other roles to be filled, like one of the suspicious young men (the othre will be played by Achmed Akkabi!), several more ice skating rink employees, and of course the ice skaters.
Belongings — If we want to tell the story from beginning to end, the actors will need to be able to hold their belongings. For example, one crucial object is a giraffe shaped beanie (which is one of our rewards if you donate!), which is essential for our story. The characters’ wardrobe is equally important, otherwise they’ll be all naked on the ice. And in the end, that’s not the type of film we have in mind anyway.
Action — Once we’re on set, we’d love to shout “And… Action!” as many times as possible. But without a camera to film with or light to set up, that will be an impossible task. The script has been written, but the equipment will make the story come to life.
Hero — We don’t just need one here, we need a whole group of heroes in order to realize Thin Ice. Heroes that know how to work their way around cameras, lights, sound equipment, production design and so on. These heroes will only show up if we pay them, feed them and give them an unforgettable day. And that’s only possible with your help!
We have already received gracious support from the Pleinbioscoop Rotterdam. If we succeed in finishing our crowdfunding campaign and realizing the film within a year, we'll earn a screening at Rotterdam's Pleinbioscoop 2018, on Europe's largest movie screen! Will you be there with us?
We’re eternally grateful for your support, which we’d like to show by giving you lots of rewards. Please take a look!
