KNUST, the Riso print pioneers

The documentary 'KNUST, the Riso print pioneers' by filmmaker Ivana Smudja is about the Nijmegen artists' initiative that originated in the 1980s during the squat movement. Knust still makes a name with stenciled expenses, called Risography. Nowadays, young artists once again discover this technique and printed matter.

The artist Charlotte Ager (UK) is followed during her residence at Knust. In addition, the printing of Knust is shown and trips to the past are done with photos, old video fragments and interviews to bring the spirit of the times from the 80s and then to life. Visual artist Gijs Frieling talks about how he broke through internationally with a book made at Knust, and we see him painting his latest mural.

International art book collectors, art scientists and museums have owned work by Knust (MOMA in New York). The founders travel the world to give workshops. We would like to bring this post-fluxus movement to the attention of a large audience.

Quote that inspired the maker

KNUST, the Riso print pioneers "I like to tell stories and espacially those stories no one has told yet. I want to share the beautiful incredible discovery called KNUST. In a visual spectacular way."
