THE FILM
LUX follows half a day in the life of Emile, a young BMX rider from Amsterdam Zuidoost, and an old homeless man on the streets of Amsterdam Zuid. The two eventually meet each other in Skatepark Olympiaplein in Amsterdam Zuid. An encounter that both, but especially the young man, will remember.

MOTIVATION OF THE DIRECTOR
My name is Bregt Pepijn Verhagen, I'm 30 years old and I'm a beginning filmmaker.

After I graduated from the University of Amsterdam as a film scientist in 2011, I briefly worked as a high school teacher before I started working as a freelance director/videographer. After making several music videos, an online mini documentary series as well as a full length documentary, my next dream is to make a short film. I wrote the screenplay for LUX about eight years ago, but now I finally think I've gained enough experience to succesfully complete the project.

LUX entails a short, simple story in which every viewer can read another meaning. The two protagonists are strongly opposed; one is "rich" and seemingly unhappy, the other is poor and seemingly happy. One is young, the other is old, one is white, the other is black. The young BMX rider shows his life on social media, the other lives the unnoticed life of a homeless man. The two meet each other in Skatepark Olympiaplein.

The film contains very little dialogue, which puts more emphasis on the cinematography and the atmosphere of the film. The score, that will be composed by none other than Rimer London, will also play a big part and will almost serve as a third main character.

Furthermore and most importantly the film needs to intrigue. It doesn't matter whether the film touches you, makes you laugh or envokes thought, as long as it moves you!

WHAT DO WE DO WITH YOUR SUPPORT?

The Amsterdam Fund for the Arts has already granted us a subsidy, but unfortunately that's not enough to produce the film. We really need your support for the rent of gear, transport - and last but not least - catering. Most crew members work for a small, symbolic compensation so the least we can do is give them a decent meal during the shooting days ;)

Quote that inspired the maker

It is through others that we develop into ourselves.
