About the project
LOCKLINEHEINZ will be a quirky, more Dutch than apple pie, animated film about the grouchy cat Heinz, known from the pleasantly-deranged comics by Windig & De Jong.

In the mishmash Amsterdam of Heinz the fantastical and the mundane happily co-exist: witches mix with door-to-door-salesmen, creepy aliens with committed stamp collectors. Animals behave as people. Or don’t. Speak. Or don’t. Or do, thanks to the latest invention. Anything goes.

Heinz has semi-permanently crashed on the couch of his friend Frits and the brilliant Professor Ape. One day, Heinz’ steady squeeze Dolly asks him to babysit their son Little Beaver. Things go well, for an hour or so. Then Heinz gets into a huge tiff with Frits and Ape. They kick him out, together with his pride and joy. Next morning, Heinz wakes up in a strange bed. In the Amsterdam Enchanted Forest. No trace of Little Beaver! Heinz has no idea what happened to him.  But everyone he encounters remembers him all too well. And has some beef with him. Soon, he is chased by angry gnomes and fuming philatelists. Heinz is desperate. Where is Little Beaver?!

Everyone knows a Heinz. And anyone who takes a good look in the mirror, will see some of Heinz in themselves. Heinz is everywhere.

Why do we need crowdfunding?

We’re going to use the donations to build a HEINZ community. Long before the movie is released, we want to introduce as many people as possible to the uniquely Dutch grouch Heinz. We’ll need a marketing budget for that. The interactive campaign will be funny, absurd, and out of the ordinary, just as Heinz himself. We’ll also use the funds to cast some big names and record a great voice track.

The total budget for the film will be around 2 million Euro. We have the key finance in place, but the funding is not complete yet. We’ll know more by the end of this year. Enthusiastic endorsement via Cinecrowd will prove to our financiers that the public at large cares about that little offbeat character Heinz. That’s how the film will get made!

In case we won’t be able to secure the necessary funding, crowdfunders will get their money back. Not a likely scenario, we expect, but good to know.

Target audience

HEINZ will not be your typical kiddy fare, but kids are more than welcome to see it. The movie is aimed at a wide audience. Not for the preschool set, but fun for anybody who loves an crazy animated adventure that breaks the ground rules.

Marketing

We are planning a big, sustained campaign (“Join Forces with HEINZ!”) to warm up the Netherlands, Europe and the world, to the movie and its main character. Our goal is to create a large fan base for Heinz, mainly through social media, by various playful interactive promotions. In addition we’ll support the movie in theaters, with our joint-promotion partners, and via print, tv and radio.

The Makers

HEINZ the movie will be made, with the blessing of cartoonists René Windig & Eddy de Jong, by the best and the brightest Dutch and Belgian animation talent, and IN the Netherlands and Belgium! Screenwriter and director Piet Kroon will even come back from The States.

Join forces with HEINZ! The cat’s out of the bag. Now let’s skin this puppy!

Quote that inspired the maker

Live and Let Live, that’s Heinz’ motto. When given half a chance he prefers to sidestep problems, rather than confront them. But when his son Little Beaver is kidnapped, he finally gets up from his armchair. One thing leads to another. Very reluctantly and very much by the seat of his pants, Heinz eventually saves the entire planet from annihilation.
