This year we are graduating from the Netherlands Film Academy with a film about the human search for extraterestrial life.
The Netherlands is a sober country, not much of us deal with the search for aliens. Yet it is important for us to figure out how we were created, since we are always looking for meaning in life. Searching for Aliens is a documentary about five characters who search for life in space, in all different ways. And more important; what drives them to do so. This film is based on interviews with five people involved in the search for extraterrestrial life. In addition, the characters take us into their world.
Heino Falcke is a radio astronomer at the Radboud University Nijmegen. As a preacher, he speaks in the church over what alien life might be.
Lange Frans is known as a Dutch rapper. Frans is fascinated by live outside our planet. His music reaches many people. In his track Kamervragen II (Parliamentary Question 2) he questions politicians about keeping evidence about UFO's secret.
Mike Garrett, former director of ASTRON, the leading telescopes centre in the Netherlands, searches for extraterrestrial life by being part of SETI. According to Mike, the world will be a better place if we make contact with extraterrestrial life.
Coen Vermeeren, former teacher at the TU Delft (university), wrote the book UFO's Bestaan Gewoon (UFO's do excist). At the TU Delft he may not talk about it, but outside he lectures extensively.
Lucas Ellerbroek, an astronomer at the University of Amsterdam who researches viable planets. He wrote the book Planetenjagers (Planet Hunters) where he studies how can arise on planets.
We think it means a lot if we find out that we are (not) the only one in the universe. This film will show you a new way of thinking about our life, your own life, but also about life we may not yet know about. For finishing this film we need funding, and hope we can count on you!
Searching for Aliens premiers at the EYE Film theatre in June 2017, and has been made in coproduction with EO IKON docs.
