Picture Lock...and meet the team behind the film

Nina, the editor, working hard on the edit of A Mutual Understanding. 

Hello everyone, 

I’m happy to share that we finally have achieved picture lock on the film. That means we are done editing and can move onto the final stages of post production (sound design and color grade). Maybe this is also the right time to introduce you to some of the creative team behind the film: 


Nina Graafland | Editor

Nina Graafland is a Dutch editor who graduated from the Dutch film academy in 2016. She previously received a Bachelor and Master degree at the University of Amsterdam in film studies. Nina has worked on a wide variety of films, ranging from short fiction, feature documentary and art film. 



Mehmet Gungoren | Co-producer

Mehmet Gungoren is a Turkish producer, who graduated with a MFA in producing from the University of Southern California. Mehmet has worked on a many short narrative projects and is now also working on several feature projects. His most recent short film THE BALL METHOD stars Kiersey Clemons. 


Kenan Baysal | Line Producer

Kenan Baysal is a Turkish-American director and producer, who graduated from The New School with a MA in Media Studies. For A MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING Kenan was in charge of arranging all the logistics, locations, transportation and catering. Most recently, Kenan has produced the film SWEET THING for the acclaimed filmmaker Alexandre Rockwell. 



Louise Zhang | Assistant Director

Louise Zhang is a Chinese filmmaker, who is currently in the graduate film program at New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. Louise previously studied Computer Science (BS) at Carnegie Mellon University. Louise has worked on many different sets in the US and abroad. For A MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING Louise was in charge of scheduling the shoot, coordinating the different departments, and assisting me with some creative choices. 


Christelle Matou | Production Designer 

Christelle Matou is a French production designer originally from Guadeloupe. She graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts with a MFA in Design for Stage & Film. In a previous life Christelle also received a MA in Business Law from the Université Pierre Mendes France in Grenoble.

Rodrigo Mũnoz Molina | Costume Designer 

Rodrigo Mũnoz Molina is a Mexican costume designer. He has graduated this year with a MFA in Design for Film & Stage from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. He previously received a BFA in Theatre Set Design from the National School of Theatre Arts in Mexico. 

Since graduating Rodrigo has worked on narrative and theatre projects in Mexico and the US. 



Minco Eggersman | Composer 

Minco Eggersman is a Dutch composer. He has worked on many different international feature films such as IN BLUE and DE NIEUWE WERELD by Jaap van Heusden, REGAINED MEMORY by Stijn Bouma, AQUARIUM by Aditya Vikram
Sengupta, and BEHIND THE BLOOD by Loretta ter Horst, which will premiere at IDFA this year.

It’s interesting to me that we had the pleasure of working with such an international and inclusive crew, who are also aware of the intricacies of moving to the US and visa applications. As some of you may know I myself am in the middle of a green card procedure, which might have also been of influence on my film in some way. 

Unfortunately, the post-production is taking longer than I had wanted to, because the parties we had secured to do the sound design and color grading at no cost have dropped out. This move has forced us to adapt and look for new partners. So I will now be looking to complete this final stage of post production in the US as opposed to the Netherlands. I hope that the film will be finished by the end of this year. 

I want to thank you for sticking with us through all the ups and downs and throughout all the changes during the filmmaking process. One thing I can say is that I really believe that we have made a beautiful film. Of course, that’s just me the director saying it. But I stand behind all the choices we have made in the editing and on set. So not too far from now you can judge for yourself and see if you feel the same way!

It was really great news that the team was finally achieved picture osteopenia vs osteoporosis lock on the film. Now it is so close to the final stage of post production. We must really appreciate the creative team behind the film. Keep share more updates from here.
