About the project
LOCKLINE'I've come a long way' a documentary about adoption, produced and directed by a 33 year young adopted female from Sri Lanka

25 years since my last visit to Sri Lanka, I will go back to my home country to meet my biological mother for the first time in my life.

For a period of one year, I will discover the country, the culture and the nature together with my biological mother. My biological father and Grandmother also live in Sri Lanka and I would love to meet them as well.

At the same time, I will also look for more information about my adopted younger brother. He can reside anywhere. Will I be able to find him?

why?

Because the image of adoption in film and documentary ends with the quest and the encounter. That is why I am going to make a documentary about my journey, meeting and everything that may arise after that, as I'm an adoptee myself. To broaden the vision on and frame of reference on adoption.

I ask myself the following questions:

WHERE IS THE IMAGE ABOUT ADOPTION AFTER THE QUEST AND MEETING?

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE MEETING WITH BIOLOGICAL FAMILY?

HOW DO I DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AND THE COUNTRY WITH THE DIFFERENCES IN LANGUAGE, CULTURE, STANDARDS OF VALUE AND HISTORY?

ASK YOURSELF THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

HOW MANY MOVIES/DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT ADOPTION from sri lanka, DO YOU KNOW THAT GO BEYOND THE QUEST AND THE MEETING OF BIOLOGICAL FAMILY?

HOW MANY MOVIES/DOCUMENTARIES from sri lanka DO YOU KNOW ABOUT ADOPTION THAT i'm going to record?

"to experience, to smell, to feel and to taste. In the same way as I would love to meet my biological family there."

These are one-time and life-changing experiences for myself, as for the relatives to meet. This therefore requires a patient way of producing, in which all parties within the family are respected in their personal experiences.

That is why a one-year production time has been chosen. Where I can capture all these events on a personal and intimate way in my documentary.

I sincerely welcome your support by donating and sharing this video in your network.

The donations will be used for:

-The journey and residence in Sri Lanka, together with my biological mother

-The quest for my younger brother

-The equipment needed to record this documentary professionally

-I will also cooperate with both a Dutch and a Sri Lankan crew

-My intention is to provide the knowledge and expertise that I will gain during my journey, available to other adoptees who are open to it.

This crowdfunding allows me to realize my dream and life goal: to broaden my knowledge of my roots by enlarging the narrative about adoption by sharing it with the whole wide world.

Quote that inspired the maker

"While other programs and movies concerning adoption are limited to a first meeting. I will dive deeper. It may be seen, it may be felt and it may be experienced."
