About I AM
Our film is about a young woman who dies in a traffic accident, but does not realize immediately that she is dead. We tell the story from her perspective, exploring what it's like to say goodbye when you suddenly die. Saying goodbye from another dimension, in a parallel world.
The idea for this film originated from the time my father suddenly died of a brain hemorrhage. I could not believe that this was the end. That he would not see my daughter grow up and would not know how it would fare me and my family. Life could not be so cruel. In me the thought grew that he was able to catch a glance of my future and see in advance the highlights of my life. Maybe the dead (in some other dimension) are allowed to look into the future of those they love, before they move on to their next destination?
We are going to tell this story in the form of a film poem. Just like in poems the story comes from observations, emotions, snippets of text and images. Death is a great mystery that we know little about. This story of dying is told from a perspective of what is felt and what is unknown. The form of poetry is well suited for our story.
Why does our project deserve your support?
With this movie I'm looking for the great unknown, which we all have to face sooner or later. Without answers to questions, for which there is no answer, we offer you an image that even those who die suddenly, will be given the time to say goodbye.
Film poems are not likely to be made in the mainstream film industry. The industry is pretty unambiguous. Crowdfunding is a way to get films like these made. With your help we can reach our target of 10,000 euros and gain the trust of funding organisations so we can get the full budget required.
I estimate the full budget at 30,000 euros. After the 40 crowdfunding days (that’s how long this campaign will last) I will continue to work on the screenplay. The plan is to shoot the film in the early spring of 2018. The crew and the cast are known. With this same group, we shot a video mood Board for I AM in February of this year.
